WOMAN ALLEGEDLY DIES IN HOSPITAL DURING CHILDBIRTH DUE TO DOCTORS’ NEGLIGENCE
That there be #Justice4Chisom!
“Today we (LEAP Africa Alumni) bury one of
our finest member and we can't help but to push out the story of how she died
so individuals, families, and our society at large will perhaps take nothing
for granted when it comes to women giving birth. Life is sacred and those who
treat it with recklessness should be called to order” writes Adeyemi Asaba Gca Cor
So, this is Chisom
Anekwe (nee Okereke), a young, vivacious, graceful, kind-hearted and
intelligent woman who had devoted her life to helping indigent kids and giving
their lives a meaning. She’s an alumna of LEAP Africa.
Two weeks ago, precisely April 30th 2017, Chisom died under questionable circumstances at Magodo Specialist Hospital in Lagos while trying to birth her third offspring. We believe strongly that the authorities need to ensure that lives are taken sacred in hospitals like Magodo Specialist Hospital where such avoidable deaths are recorded.
Chisom was admitted in the hospital four days before she got into labour. She already had two daughters birthed in the same hospital and was there to birth her third child, a son. While at the hospital, no one attended to her when she needed help to be delivered of the long awaited baby. She was left for hours in labour. This happened until her husband created a scene, which eventually caused the doctors to go to her ward and on inspection they found out that the baby had struggled and died.
The husband at this point requested for a CS which he paid for and even signed the consent form presented by the hospital. He was then tricked out of the room to go prepare for blood transfusion and on getting back, he found out that the doctors had induced the wife and delivered the dead baby without operation not minding that the CS procedure had been paid for. This was without his consent.
During the process of delivering the baby, the placenta got ruptured and the doctors left her like that, no further attendance still. Shortly after, the husband noticed she was swelling up in her stomach area and called the attention of the doctors who said they were getting ready for a surgery, a preparation that took longer than usual.
After waiting in vain for the surgical team, the frustrated husband went furiously to the reception to demand why they were wasting time only to discover the doctor had sneaked out of the hospital under funny pretences. At this point he got other hospital staff to wheel her out of the hospital and in that process Chisom died!
This is the story of most young women who die while giving birth as a result of the callousness, ignorance and carelessness of inexperienced doctors. In this era, we shouldn't be talking about Child and Maternal Mortality especially when it can be avoided. This could have been avoided but it wasn't and now Chisom Jane Anekwe is a victim and has been added to the statistics.
We demand;
1. That Magodo Specialist Hospital, Shangisha, Lagos, be investigated for their actions and the subsequent death of Chisom.
2. That both the Nigerian Medical Association NMA and the Medical and Dentist Council of Nigeria, MDCN ensure that supposed Specialist Hospitals who claim to have a resident Gynecologist are verified.
3. That there be justice for Chisom!

2BABA REPORTEDLY THREATENS TO SUE BLACKFACE FOR DEFAMATION OF CHARACTER
SOURCE: BELLANAIJA
Music legend, 2Baba has been
the target of a lot of accusations from his former bandmate, Blackface in
recent times. He has however come out to threaten Blackface with legal action
unless the latter apologizes for defamation of character.
In a letter
written by his lawyers and obtained
exclusively by Str8upbangin, it states that Blackface (real
name Ahmedu Augustine)
should tender a general unreserved apology for all statements made and
published by him in the past as well as cease from making further defamatory
remarks.
The letter
also gives him a week to apologize or face the music at the court of law.
Blackface had recently
threatened to sue 2Baba
and his manager, Efe Omoregbe over
alleged copyright infringement in an interview with Premium Times.
He accused 2Baba of
stealing his songs like
“Let Somebody Love You” and the mega-hit, “African Queen”. He also made other
allegations recently on Instagram accusing 2Baba
of trying to sabotage his career.

PHOTOS: CHIMAMANDA ADICHIE STUNS IN MADE-IN-NIGERIA ATTIRES
Award winning Author and feminist icon, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, is currently on a promotion of Nigerian fashion labels.
To the delight of her fans on Instagram, Chimamanda has been rocking some really beautiful and colourful clothes for all her public appearances and as announced in a Facebook post, this is part of her ‘Wear Nigerian’ Project. In her post, she said:
The Nigerian government's disastrous economic policies have led to a reduction in the value of the naira and therefore in disposable income, a change in values, a disorientation of the middle class, and most of all, to a debilitating sense of uncertainty.
If we are to grasp for a silver lining, then the 'Buy Nigerian to Grow The Naira' rhetoric is one.
In that spirit, I recently decided to wear mostly Nigerian brands for my public appearances. (Before, by the way, President Buhari declared ‘Made in Nigeria dress’ days.)
In the past few weeks, I’ve bought more Nigerian brands than I ever have in the past. I’ve discovered new names. I’ve been filled with admiration for the women and men running their businesses despite the many challenges they face. I'm particularly interested in 'inward-looking' brands, those for whom dressing Nigerian women is as important as other goals.
I’ve changed quite a few dodgy zippers, been disappointed by some poor quality fabrics, and been impressed by some detail-oriented finishing. Overall, I love the clothes, their cut, their whimsy, their color, their flair, their ability to make me feel like myself. Their makers, from designer to tailor to button-fixer to okada-delivery-person, deserve to be supported.
At the suggestion of my very au fait nieces Chisom and Amaka - who think Aunty is a hilarious luddite dinosaur (and they have a point, sadly) - I am now on Instagram at chimamanda_adichie documenting my 'Wear Nigerian' project.
See below some beautiful pictures of the stunning 39-year-old in made-in-nigeria attires as shared on her Instagram account managed by her nieces:
