FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD DROWNS IN IYOBA, BENIN CITY

Iyoba Street off Textile Mill Road, Benin City was thrown into confusion and mourning on Wednesday following the death of a fifteen-year-old student. The boy - Ikponwonsa Igiebor drowned in a swamp within the area.
From reports, there has been a flooding problem in the area and it has claimed two lives in three years.

According to the mother of the deceased and other witnesses, Ikponwonsa had returned from school that morning due to the strike by the NLC and followed two of his friends to the swamp where they usually play and hunt for catfish before the sad incident occurred.
The residents of Iyoba Street, apprehensive that more buildings in the area are at risk of being submerged during the rainy season, therefore called on the State Government to address the erosion problem in the area which they said has claimed lives over the years and submerged over ten buildings.
They also appealed to the government to save the area from being cut off other parts of Benin City.

The corpse of the fifteen year old has been brought to their family home and buried.
