HOUSE BURNS AT USELU

Properties worth hundreds of thousands of naira were destroyed in a fire incident at No. 1 Good Samaritan Street, Uselu, Benin City, yesterday.
While two children were rescued from the affected storey building, the men of the Edo State Fire Service battled to contain the fire which had already destroyed the upper floor of the building. It was gathered that tenants of the affected building were not at home when the fire began.
The incident attracted a crowd of sympathisers some of whom assisted in salvaging some property from the affected building.
The cause of the fire could not be immediately ascertained; however Policemen and officials of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps were on the ground to ensure that salvaged property was not stolen.
