EDO NULGE: WORKER SLUMPS DURING PROTEST

A local government worker slumped and died yesterday morning during a statewide protest organised by the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Edo State over accumulated unpaid salaries.

The protest led by the National President of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Ibrahim Khaleel, had been what could be referred to as a mother of all protests. Thousands of council workers turned out for the exercise calling on the government to heed their cry over the non-payment of salaries of over 5 to 18 months.

The protesters had on display various placards calling on the Edo State Government to pay the backlog of unpaid salaries.

The National President of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees said the meeting held with State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole had reached a deadlock and asked the government to immediately respond to the call of the workers.

State President, Edward Ilenikhena and others said it has been months of untold hardship.

It was also reported that the mass protest paralysed economic activities in many parts of the metropolis.
