All children are gifts but many families forbid some.
Many believe what the mother eats, her habits or attitude or time of the day she moves about during pregnancy brings about this unusual condition. It is however quite interesting to know that so many avoid this unfounded-but-perceived-as-true ‘rumours’ and still give birth to babies with Down Syndrome.
In simple terms, anyone can have them.
Despite the many odds against children born with this condition, I am sure Solomon Omere’s parents, guardians and friends wouldn’t feel any less happy today.
Solomon Omere
He is with the Down Syndrome condition but this young man remains a living testimony to all. The most recent of his achievements include featuring in a first of its kind drama in Nigeria produced by Wale Adenuga Productions.
This touching Superstory series titled ‘GODWIN’ tells the story of Godwin Darego, the heir to a dynasty. Godwin faces many challenges but living with Down Syndrome is the least of them…. his quest for love exposes him to some of the most sinister people on the face of the earth.
The series will hit TV screens from March 16. What stands this story out is that the lead actor – Godwin (character) was actually played and interpreted by a person living with Down Syndrome Condition (Solomon Omere).

Worthy of note about this 26-year-old versatile young man from Edo State is that he (Solomon Omere) was also amongst the athletes that represented Nigeria at the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games, a multi-sport event for athletes with intellectual disabilities held in Los Angeles, United States.
Solomon represented the country in Basketball inclusive of the forty-two athletes that competed in seven sports: Football, Swimming, Athletics, Basketball, Cycling, Badminton and Table Tennis. The team returned with a total of 71 medals, 34 of which are gold.
Again, yet another feat was recorded when the sixth edition of the Brighter Rewarding Future (BRF) Quiz Competition extended its scope to special schools. Amongst the winners of 2015 edition (Special School Category) were the duo of Solomon Omere and Eke Kelechi of the Down Syndrome Foundation, Nigeria who emerged 2nd.
Solomon remains one of the many successes of the DOWN SYNDROME FOUNDATION NIGERIA despite the challenges of the 15-year old organisation.
